Worst Sunday Ever

That's what Esther said on our way into the ER tonight.

It began like most Sunday mornings. Daron left for early church meetings and I was wrangling three children, trying to get them ready in an hour and a half.

Fortunately, Jacob fell back asleep and I was able to shower without him screaming. But as I was getting dressed, Esther started screaming and crying. I thought maybe she and Nathan were fighting. So I marched out to take care of it only to find her standing on her chair sobbing and pointing to the floor.

There was a snake.

Now granted it was not a large one. Gardner Snake variety.

But in my book, a snake is still a snake. And I nearly joined her on the chair.

The kids grabbed their breakfast and ran to their room, finishing it from the safety of a tall bed. I got the job of catching the snake. Yuck. It slithered into the pantry and stayed there. We were going to be late for church so I set up a flimsy barrier and off we went.

On the way to church, Esther prayed that it would stay put in the pantry and not wander around the house. Then she and Nathan proceeded to tell all sorts of stories as to how the snake got into our house.

Since Daron had more meetings after church, a friend's husband and son came over and caught the sneaky little thing for us. Hooray!

He had stayed in the pantry.

Later in the evening we went to some friends' house for dinner. After dessert, we were chatting while the kids played around. And Esther did a nose plant on the corner of a glass coffee table. Blood. Gouge in the nose. Screaming.

David, in nursing school, confirmed we were going to need stitches. My heart sunk. I dreaded going through that with Esther.

Debbie suggested the logistics idea - Daron, myself, and friend Sabrina go with Esther and Jacob to the ER. That way I could nurse Jacob when needed but Sabrina could stay with him so Daron and I could focus on Esther. Her husband took Nathan to our house to put him to bed. It worked great. Thanks, Debbie. I was too flustered to think!

(By the way, dinner was amazing! Thank you!)

Before we left, Daron gave Esther a blessing that all would be well and that she would be brave.

Truly, she handled it way better than I thought she would! (Another prayer answered.) She didn't like the needle giving her the local anesthetic. But she was a champ during the stitching. Thank you, Dr. Linksy, for being a great ER doctor!

I had also been silently praying about some silly concerns I had about her wound, which the dr. addressed without my even mentioning them!

She came out with three stitches and a Rice Krispie Treat and telling everyone thank you, I had a great time, that was so fun, etc. What? Crazy girl.

What a day! But I do feel blessed that God heard and answered our prayers-the small and bigger things. I am daily aware of His love for me.

Best quote of the day while Esther was waiting for stitches: "I wish I could skip this challenge."

Photo is us waiting for numbing agent to work before the anesthetic. She refused to let Daron take a picture of the wound.

Poor girl. I am glad she is doing good now. That does sound like a bad Sunday. I don't know how you do it. You are superwoman!

Great quote! How many times have I thought that? I wish I could skip this challenge--fabulous! And what a good sport for the worst Sunday ever. I think I would have been up on the chair right next to her if I found a snake in my kitchen--yipes! You are a great mom, and you are raising great children! Take care.

It's a scary thing watching our children get hurt and go through this sort of stuff. She did such a good job!
