Esther and Nathan chose our theme this year - Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian. Daron was Larry Daley, I was Amelia Earhart, Esther was Sacajawea, Nathan was Octavius, and Jacob was Jedediah. We were too busy to think of any clever trunk decorations so we hooked up our tv to the iPad and played the movie from which we got our theme. At one point, we had a bunch of kids sitting down watching it!
Unfortunately, we had a record high of 92 yesterday and it was still very warm and humid. I was sweating in my leather jacket but refused to take it off - on principle!
I made Nathan's battle skirt from a red vinyl and gold paint. My painting skills are much better than my sewing skills. We made leg greaves from cardboard and silver contact paper - not as good as mylar but I couldn't find any at a price I was willing to pay. The cape I wore for a play in high school, and the breastplate was from Amazon. If I'd had enough time, I would have made a better fitting breastplate out of plaster of paris. Next time!
Esther's costume was from Amazon and it is surprisingly well made. There is even a zipper and it is well constructed. Very pleased with it! The adorable fringe boots are from The Children's Place and she looks forward to wearing them in the cooler weather. The wig didn't last very long as it was pretty itchy.
My sweet girl. She knows a lot about Sacajawea!
I bought the boots big for Jacob so he can wear them for a long time. When I first put them on (they reach nearly his knees) he looked at me all panicky and said, "I can't move!" But he finally figured it out and was all over the parking lot.
This is what Jacob does when you ask him what a cowboy says. Can you tell? "Mooooo!"
And a bonus picture of Jacob at the pumpkin patch the other day!
