Green Smoothie

Would you believe this has kale in it? I was reading about its pretty amazing health qualities and that it's good in smoothies. So I tried it. Not bad, really, and the kids actually enjoyed it. Especially Nathan whose favorite color is green!

I've been trying to add more veggies to our smoothies as we don't eat quite as much of them as we do fruit. Spinach is also good in a smoothie - especially with berries.

One of my favorites, though, is bananas, carrots, pineapple, oranges or orange juice, and ice. Yum!

What goes in your smoothie?

We have green smoothies every morning for breakfast! I generally use either spinach, kale, or arugula. I throw in a lot of frozen fruits--but also frozen veggies! I've done broccoli, peas, carrots, green beans... just enough so that the fruit masks the flavors for the most part. I also find that if you add some almond or peanut butter, you can hide even more veggies in there. Same with yogurt.

Anyways, the boys love it and I feel so good about starting our day that way!

We do frozen bananas, frozen peaches, plain yogurt, pears, spinach and Tirza's favorite -- kale too! (Not all of those at once, but they're some of the staples.)
