For the Love of Dessert!

Generally, my kids will eat their dinner - eventually. It seems to be taking a long time at meals lately. Does that happen to you? They just get so distracted!

The motivation that helps is the promise of dessert. And it doesn't have to be more than a few M&Ms or chocolate chips! But some days, apparently the food is just too terrible.

Like tonight, Esther was causing scene after scene of whining and complaining. So Daron threatened to send her to bed right then. She actually brightened!

Never mind. We take back the threat. Eat your meal.

"Oh."

Finally, we gave her a choice. Finishing part of the meal would win her a cookie tomorrow. If she finished all of the meal, she could have one tonight. Well, as she was eating the part (having resigned herself to waiting 'till tomorrow-though how much do you want to bet she's expecting it for breakfast?) Nathan, Daron, and myself had finished and were happily enjoying our cookies.

Cue waterworks and whining.

"Please, can I just have a lick of that cookie?!" she wailed.

We couldn't help it. We just burst into laughter. I feel badly, but what else can you do when your daughter turns on the oh-so-dramatic mode?

Oh, dinner is never boring at our house!

Oh, I am so glad to hear that we aren't the only family with dramatic family dinners. And it's just adorable that she just wanted a lick of the cookie! What a smart girl.

Honestly, I'm pretty sure we've had that EXACT same exchange before w/ Andrea & Lacie. I'm assuming it's only a matter of time before we go through it with Hyrum; although, I'm not sure he's quite as creative as the girls are with ways to get at least SOME of the dessert. :)
